CFL.ca Offers Fans Live In-Depth Coverage of the 2007 Canadian Draft.
Toronto, ON (April 26, 2007) – The Canadian Football League (CFL) is pleased to present live webcast coverage of this year’s Canadian Draft on CFL.ca.
Duane Forde of The Score and Mike Hogan of The Fan 590 will co-host the draft on May 2, beginning at 1:00pm ET from the CFL’s office in Toronto.
Fans tuning into the webcast on CFL.ca and its French affiliate LCF.ca will be able to hear and see the draft developments, complete with visuals of the players selected, interviews with General Managers and Coaches and analysis by the co-hosts. In addition, some of the prominent players selected will be interviewed.
“The value of this webcast is that we can reach our fans in real time with in-depth coverage while profiling the League’s up-and-coming Canadian talent,” CFL Commissioner Mark Cohon said. “This is part of our commitment to reach-out to our fans and offer them enhanced content by using our various media platforms.”
This year, 910 players from Canadian and American colleges and universities are eligible for the draft, which is open to Canadian-born players who have played a minimum of one year of post-secondary football. The draft consists of six rounds and a total of 47 selections (Edmonton forfeited a pick in the last round when it selected a player in last year’s supplemental draft for players who have never gone through the Canadian Draft).
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have the first and fourth pick overall following a multiple-player trade with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The Edmonton Eskimos pick second overall, followed by the Calgary Stampeders, who acquired their selection in a trade with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers that sent offensive lineman Alexandre Gauthier, the first pick overall in the 2002 CFL Canadian Draft, to the Blue Bombers. Calgary also has the fifth pick overall, acquired from the Toronto Argonauts in a trade for offensive lineman Taylor Robertson, and its own pick in the sixth slot. Montreal has the seventh pick overall and the Grey Cup champion B.C. Lions round out the first round with the eighth overall pick.
