2008 Canadian draft selection order: trades

Toronto (LCF.ca) – Every year, CFL teams are trading players in order to improve on the field. Sometimes, these trades include draft picks.

In certain cases, it is hard to tell who got the most out of a trade before knowing how much impact the drafted Canadian player will have on a team. And this can take months or years after the fact. Here is a quick look at the draft picks that were traded over the course of the last few seasons.

ROUND 1
#5 Overall – Saskatchewan via Toronto
Saskatchewan received Toronto’s 1st round pick in 2008, Toronto’s 2nd round pick in 2010 along with Glenn January and Ronald Flemons in exchange for its 3rd round pick in 2010 and Kerry Joseph.

#7 Overall – Montreal via Saskatchewan
Montreal received Saskatchewan’s 1st and 4th round pick in 2008 along with Ryan Karhut and the rights to a negotiation list player in exchange for its 3rd round pick in 2008 along with Henri Childs and Brian Jones.

ROUND 2
#9 Overall – BC via Hamilton
BC received Hamilton’s 2nd round pick in 2008 in exchange for import defensive back Markeith Knowlton along with the rights to kicker/punter Ara Tchobanian.

#10 Overall – Saskatchewan via Edmonton via Toronto via Edmonton
Saskatchewan received Edmonton’s 2nd round pick in 2008 (10th overall) and Steven Jyles in exchange for its 2nd round pick in 2008 (16th overall) and Fred Perry.

#16 Overall – Edmonton via Saskatchewan
Edmonton received Saskatchewan’s second round pick (16th overall) and Fred Perry in exchange for its second round pick (10th overall) and Steven Jyles.

ROUND 3
#18 Overall – BC via Edmonton
BC received Edmonton’s third round pick in exchange for Rob Pikula and its third round pick (23rd overall).

#20 Overall – Saskatchewan via Montreal
Saskatchewan received Montreal’s 3rd round pick in 2008 along with Henri Childs & Brian Jones in exchange for its 1st and 4th round pick in 2008 along with Ryan Karhut and the rights to a negotiation list player.

#23 Overall – Edmonton via BC via Winnipeg (Best 3rd)
Edmonton received BC’s best 3rd round selection in 2008 in exchange for Rob Pikula and its third round pick (18th overall).

#24 Overall – Winnipeg via Edmonton (Lowest 3rd) via Saskatchewan
Winnipeg received Edmonton’s lowest 3rd round pick in 2008 in exchange for Aaron Fiacconi.

ROUND 4
#25 Overall – Edmonton via Hamilton
Edmonton received Hamilton’s 4th round pick in 2008 along with Agustin Barrenechea in exchange for Jason Nedd.

#32 Overall – Montreal via Saskatchewan
Montreal received Saskatchewan’s 1st and 4th round pick in 2008 along with Ryan Karhut and the rights to a negotiation list player in exchange for its 3rd round pick in 2008 along with Henri Childs and Brian Jones.

ROUND 6
#42 Overall – Toronto via Edmonton (Best 6th Round)
Toronto received Edmonton’s best 6th round pick in exchange for Sandy Annunziata.

#48 Overall – Montreal via Saskatchewan (Best 6th Round)
Montreal received Saskatchewan’s best 6th round pick in exchange for Thyron Anderson.
