MONTREAL – McGill senior Matt Connell has become the new Canadian Interuniversity Sport record holder for career passing yards, and the first quarterback in CIS history to reach the 10,000-yard plateau.
The St. Bruno, Que., native completed 13 of 16 passes for 203 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the first half of McGill’s game against Montreal on Saturday, giving him 10,059 passing yards for his career.
The previous record of 9,974 yards was held by former McMaster great Ben Chapdelaine (1997-2001).
Connell broke Chapdelaine’s mark and reached exactly 10,000 yards on the same play, a 46-yard pass to Charles-Antoine Sinotte with just under two minutes left in the half.
Connell also added to his own CIS records for attempts (1,331) and completions (794).
