HAMILTON — Kicker Justin Medlock and defensive back Carlos Thomas are on their way to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
They were acquired in a trade with the Edmonton Eskimos on Monday for a second-round pick in the 2011 CFL Canadian draft and the negotiation list rights to defensive back Dalin Tollestrup.
Hamilton also received third- and fifth-round draft picks in the trade.
“We’re pleased to complete this trade as it provides our team with depth at kicker and defensive back as well an additional pick in this year’s draft,” said Ticats coach Marcel Bellefeuille.
Medlock spent the final four games of the 2010 season on Edmonton’s reserve list after signing as a free agent in October. He was exceptional with the Toronto Argonauts in 2009, connecting on 40 of 46 field goals while averaging 42.3 yards per punt.
Thomas finished last year on the Eskimos practice roster. In 2009, he joined the Saskatchewan Roughriders practice roster in October after a stint with the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers.
On Monday, Edmonton also announced the signing of free-agent kicker Louie Sakoda.
“It’s never easy trading an elite player like Justin Medlock, but by adding Louie Sakoda we felt justified in making this deal and moving up five valuable spots in the upcoming CFL draft,” said Eskimos GM Eric Tillman.
