HAMILTON — Hamilton Tiger-Cats offensive lineman Marwan Hage and his Hage’s Heroes community initiative will host a food drop in Moncton, New Brunswick on Friday, April 15. Hage has teamed up with Speroway, an international relief organization, to provide Family Food Boxes and hygiene boxes to 500 Moncton families in need.
Hage will be on-hand to personally deliver the food boxes to families.
“I am honoured to help contribute to the community in Moncton,” said Hage. “I would like to thank Speroway for helping me organize this food drive, as well as our great partner Midland Transportation.”
Speroway is a Guelph Ontario based international relief organization whose mandate is to deliver hope to needy children in Canada and around the world by partnering with caring Canadians to provide food, medicine, education and other essentials.
Hage will suit up for his eighth CFL season in 2011. Last year, he was named the East Division’s Most Outstanding Lineman as well as a CFL, East Division and CFLPA All-Star. Hage speaks English, French, Arabic and Spanish.
The CFL veteran established Hage’s Heroes in 2007. The program has welcomed over 3,000 underprivileged youth to Tiger-Cats home games, fed over 4,000 families through food drives, organized Christmas toy drives and made numerous donations to local charities since its inception. Hage was honoured with the 2009 Tom Pate Memorial Award for his efforts in the community.
Hage and the Tiger-Cats host the Calgary Stampeders on September 25, 2011 in the CFL’s Touchdown Atlantic game in Moncton.
