Lions deal kicker Sean Whyte to Montreal

VANCOUVER — The B.C. Lions drafted punter Hugh O’Neill in the 2011 Canadian Draft on Sunday raising questions about the log jam at the kicker position.

That question was answered following the draft when the Lions shipped kicker Sean Whyte to the Montreal Alouettes in exchange for the Als’ first round selection in the 2012 Canadian Draft.

“Sean deserves an opportunity to become a full time kicker in the CFL and he will get that in Montreal,” said Lions’ GM and head coach Buono.

The Alouettes were in need of a kicker when it became apparent the team was not going to re-sign veteran kicker Damon Duval. Duval became a free agent this off-season.
