Injuries force Als to trade for DL Lucas

MONTREAL — The Montreal Alouettes announced Monday the acquisition of Ryan Lucas from the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ practice roster. The 6’5”, 290 pound defensive tackle previously enjoyed a short stint in Montreal in 2007, although has yet to play a game with the team. Seeking some non-import talent on the defensive line, Lucas joins the team following an injury to J.P. Bekasiak.

“It’s an injury to his chest cavity,” said Head Coach Marc Trestman. “He had an X-ray taken today and underwent further testing. He should miss a few weeks, but how many is undetermined right now,” said Trestman of Bekasiak, who sustained the injury in last week’s loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Fortunately, the news regarding the return of star safety Étienne Boulay was somewhat brighter. “It’s important to not come back too soon from this type of injury,” said Boulay of the slight concussion which sidelined him last week. “I’m a hard-hitting safety so I need to see how my body reacts after that first collision.”

Boulay will not practice with his teammates tomorrow at Stade Hebert, using the time instead to heal and relax. He remains questionable for Thursday’s game against the Toronto Argonauts and will be replaced by either Jeff Hecht or Tad Crawford should the symptoms related to his injury persist.
