TORONTO — Travis Lulay, Khalif Mitchell, Chris Milo and Johnny Forzani were named the Gibson’s Finest CFL Players of the Week for Week 18, the Canadian Football League announced today.
The four players were chosen by a panel of judges including: former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde, now of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.
BC quarterback Travis Lulay takes home his second Offensive Player of the Week nod, following his big game against the Eskimos. Lulay completed 67 per cent of his passes for 322 yards and three touchdowns, en-route to leading the Lions to a 29-20 win.
Lulay also had three carries for 22 yards.
In the opening quarter of Saturday’s matchup, Lulay connected with Jamal Robertson on a 35-yard touchdown pass and later connected with Paris Jackson on a 51-yard pass, his longest of the game, for another score. His third touchdown came in the fourth quarter on a 14-yard strike to Arland Bruce.
Lulay’s teammate, Khalif Mitchell also picks up his second Player of the Week award, for his efforts on the defensive side of the ball against Edmonton.
Mitchell registered four tackles and two sacks for a total loss of 17 yards in BC’s tenth win of the season.
Roughriders rookie kicker Chris Milo picks up his first career Special Teams Player of the Week award, following his record performance in Saskatchewan’s 19-3 win over the Ticats.
Milo connected on all three of his field goal attempts and tied a CFL record with a 108-yard punt in the first quarter.
Stampeders receiver Johnny Forzani is the league’s top Canadian for the second time this season. The Calgary native caught six passes for 108 yards and two touchdowns in a huge win over the Alouettes.
In two games against the Als, Forzani has racked up a staggering 12 receptions for 209 yards and four touchdowns.
