HAMILTON, Ont. — The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that the team has signed Canadian kicker/punter Luca Congi.

Congi, a 5-10, 190-pound native of Waterloo, Ontario, previously spent six seasons (2006-11) with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, earning the Riders’ Most Outstanding Rookie award in 2006 and their Most Outstanding Special Teams Player on three occasions.

The Roughriders acquired Congi in the second round (12th overall) of the 2006 CFL Canadian Draft.

In 87 regular season games, Congi has connected on 166 of 209 field goal attempts (79.4%) while punting 167 times for 6,367 yards (38.1 average). Congi missed the 2011 season due to injury.

“Luca is a proven player who is capable of handling all three kicking duties.  We’re pleased to add Luca to our roster and we know he’s looking forward to competing at training camp,” said head coach and director of football operations George Cortez.

Before joining Saskatchewan, Congi spent five seasons at Simon Fraser, hitting 15 of 20 field goal attempts while averaging 40.5 yards per punt in his final season.
