EDMONTON — The Edmonton Eskimos have signed three free agents; linebacker Eric Gordon, cornerback Mark Parson, and cornerback Ronnie Prude, the club announced today.
Gordon was signed as an undrafted free agent following the 2011 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. After being released from the Jaguars he had a brief stint with the Cleveland Browns.
Gordon played his college football at Michigan University; he started 49 of 51 career games at MSU which is an all-time Spartans record for starts. The Michigan native also recorded 331 career tackles, which ranks 12th all-time in Michigan State history.
“Eric is a terrific football player we’ve pursued for almost a year after being highly recommended by Ed Hervey. His outstanding production at Michigan State over four years and his excellent results on the Spartans pro day were both very impressive. And, speaking of the latter, few linebackers record the combination of a 4.54 forty, a 40 inch vertical, and a 10’7 broad jump,” said Eskimo General Manager Eric Tillman.
Parson was an undrafted free agent in the 2009 NFL Draft and has spent time on the practice rosters of the Houston Texans and the New Orleans Saints. Parson was a three year starter at Ohio University.
“Mark is a strong guy for his size, with good instincts, who he will compete on the corner and inside at halfback during training camp. Additionally, Mark is a very good open field tackler, which is an area our club certainly needs to improve in 2012,” said Tillman.
Prude signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2006. He was active for 24 games with the Ravens in 2006 and 2007. For the past three seasons Ronnie was a starter with Sacramento in the UFL. In 21 career starts at LSU, he had three interceptions and 114 tackles.
“Ronnie was one of the better defensive backs in the UFL. He plays physical for his size, uses his hands very well, and Ronnie displays very good route recognition,” added Tillman.
