MONTREAL — The Montreal Alouettes might be without veteran quarterback Anthony Calvillo when they take on the Stampeders at Percival Molson Stadium on Thursday night.
Monday, Alouettes head coach Marc Trestman said that Calvillo is listed as questionable for Thursday night’s home game vs. the Calgary Stampeders because of a sore shoulder, and will be going for an MRI.
“If there is any quarterback in the CFL who can win a game without any reps on a short week it’s Calvillo,” said CFL.ca’s Rick Moffat.
“The left shoulder trouble didn’t prevent him from throwing for 440 yards and that was still with uncharacteristic drops from the Als’ big play receivers.”
Calvillo was briefly knocked out of Friday night’s game against the Blue Bombers, but did return in time for Montreal’s ensuing possession. The injury likely occured in the second quarter, when Calvillo was tackled by Bombers defensive tackle Brandon Collier.
The 19-year veteran ended the game with 443 passing yards and three touchdown passes, as well as an 80 per cent completion percentage.
Should Calvillo be unable to play against the Stampeders, backup quarterback Adrian McPherson will likely get the start behind centre.
Last season, McPherson completed 28 passes for 311 yards and one touchdown. He was also dangerous on the ground, running 50 times for 181 yards and four majors.
