TORONTO — As the final whistle sounded at Vancouver’s BC Place Stadium on Saturday night, the 2012 CFL season officially came to a close.

This week, the 100th Grey Cup Playoffs matchups were finally finalized, as the Edmonton Eskimos and Saskatchewan Roughriders discovered their post-season fate.

As a result of Edmonton’s loss to the Calgary Stampeders on Friday night, the Green and Gold will now travel to Toronto to take on the Argonauts in the Eastern Semi-Final, while the Roughriders will head to Alberta to take on the Stamps in the ern Semi.

The Riders lost to the BC Lions on Saturday night, but had a bulk of their offensive and defensive stalwarts on the sidelines.

Meanwhile, the Argos ended their season on a high, as they downed the Tiger-Cats in a thriller at Rogers Centre on Thursday night.

Finally, with Anthony Calvillo on the sidelines, the Alouettes succumed to the Blue Bombers in the final game at Canad Inns Stadium.

Toronto 43, Hamilton 40

A 51-yard field goal by Swayze Waters with no time remaining in the fourth quarter gave the Toronto Argonauts a dramatic 43-40 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Thursday night.

The field goal was set up by fourth-string quarterback Zack Collaros, who calmly got the Argos into field goal range with just one minute to work with following a late Tiger-Cats game-tying touchdown.

The Boatmen received solid performances from all three of their quarterbacks, with Jarious Jackson, Trevor Harris and Collaros combining to complete 19 passes for 270 yards and two touchdowns.

 Calgary 30, Edmonton 27

Rene Paredes capped off a record-setting night at Commonwealth Stadium with a 44-yard field goal to boot the Calgary Stampeders to a 30-27 win over the Edmonton Eskimos.

The Stampeders will now host the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Western Semi-Final on November 11, while the Eskimos will travel east to take on the Toronto Argonauts in the Eastern Semi-Final.

Running back Jon Cornish would make history on the final play of the third quarter when he took a handoff and ran 22 yards through the teeth of the Edmonton defence and while doing so, set a new CFL record for most single-season yards gained by a Canadian on the ground.  He surpassed Normie Kwong’s record which stood for 56 years.

Edmonton linebacker JC Sherritt would also make history on Friday night, as he surpassed Calvin Tiggle for the most tackles in a season with 130.

Winnipeg 19, Montreal 11
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers closed out Canad Inns Stadium in style, downing the East Division-winning Montreal Alouettes 19-11 on Saturday afternoon.

In a game that saw little action on the offensive side of the ball, it was Bombers third-string pivot Justin Goltz who stole the show, completing three of his five passes for 30 yards, while adding 32 more yards and a touchdown on six carries in less than a full quarter of action.

Goltz took over from Alex Brink in the fourth quarter, after the latter threw for 144 yards and an interception.

Brink was starting in place of the injured Buck Pierce and Joey Elliott.

The Als also went with their backup this afternoon, handing Adrian McPherson the ball for his first start since 2010.
