WINNIPEG — Winnipeg Blue Bombers Vice-President and General Manager Joe Mack announced today that Kyle Walters has been appointed as Assistant General Manager and Director of Canadian Scouting.

Walters spent the last three seasons on the coaching staff as the team’s Special Teams Coordinator.

“We are very excited to have Kyle on board in this new position that will allow him to focus on developing our Canadian talent which is something he has excelled on in the past as our Canadian College Draft Coordinator,” said Mack.  “Kyle’s connections at the CIS level makes him the best man for this job and someone we look forward to having as part of our management team.”
Walters’ roots at the Canadian College level are deep.  Following his seven-year CFL career as a team captain and defensive back for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats after himself being a second round pick in the CFL Draft, Walters began his coaching career as the Defensive Coordinator of the University of Guelph Gryphons before being named Head Coach after two seasons.

He posted a 13-18-1 record during four seasons at the helm and advanced his team to the playoffs in three of those years.  The native of St. Thomas, Ontario has developed positive working relationships with many people in the CIS which has become crucial in the scouting and preparing for the Canadian Draft.

“It is an honour to be named the Assistant General Manager and Director of Canadian Scouting of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers,” said Walters.

“I have enjoyed coaching in the CFL but I am ready to take on a new challenge and look forward to this opportunity.  My family and I have enjoyed living in Winnipeg and we have seen first-hand how important football and the Winnipeg Football Club is to this city.  I am excited to serve and honour the proud tradition of this organization and the province of Manitoba as Assistant General Manager.”

Walters came to Winnipeg in 2010 as the team’s Special Teams Coordinator and added the title of Canadian College Draft Coordinator in 2011.
