TORONTO — The Canadian Football League is mourning the loss of Ron Lancaster Jr.

The son of Canadian Football Hall of Famer Ron Lancaster, Lancaster Jr. was an assistant coach in the CFL with Toronto, Edmonton, Hamilton and Winnipeg.

He made five Grey Cup appearances, winning three, including in 1999 with Hamilton when his father was the club’s head coach.

“The Lancaster name has deep roots in our league and our thoughts are with the entire family during this time,” said Blue Bomber President and CEO Garth Buchko in a statement.

“The entire Tiger-Cats organization would like to express our sincere condolences to the Lancaster family,” said Tiger-Cats President Scott Mitchell.

Lancaster also had deep ties to Canadian university football, serving as head coach at Manitoba (1996-95) and as an assistant at McMaster, University of Toronto and Acadia, respectively, from 1985-90. He began his coaching career as the offensive coordinator at Central Colligate in Regina.
