WINNIPEG — With two new pivots behind Buck Pierce and with Chris Garrett back in the fold at running back, the Bombers will get their first look at their 2013 squad as they open a three-day mini-camp on Wednesday in Winnipeg.

Garrett, who missed the entire 2012 season, will have his first organized workout with his teammates since he injured his Achilles in training camp last year.  Both he and Carl Volny will represent the running backs at the camp while Pierce and his two new backups, Max Hall and Chase Clement, will get their first chance to work alongside one another since the latter two signed earlier in the month.

Their arrival was brought on by the release of both Alex Brink and Joey Elliott.  Winnipeg’s other pivot, Justin Goltz, won’t participate.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Bombers will bring nine defensive backs to the camp, including one of their biggest off-season acquisitions Cauchy Muamba.  Muamba signed as a free agent after a solid 2012 campaign in BC.  The brother of starting linebacker Henoc Muamba is expected to enter the season as the club’s starting safety.

Seven of the eight CFL clubs either have held or are planning to hold mini-camps ahead of training camp which opens in June.  Saskatchewan, Hamilton, Edmonton and BC have completed their camps while Montreal and Toronto will hold theirs in Florida this weekend.
