SURREY — The BC Lions locked up WR Courtney Taylor today, signing him to a contract extensions.  The club also announced the release of WR Justin Harper and DL Maurice Evans.

Taylor originally signed with the Lions during the club’s practice roster expansion period in 2011. Last season, he spent the entire season on the club’s 46-man roster and saw his first regular season action during the Lions’ week 13 tilt versus Calgary recording two receptions for 29 yards.

“Courtney has been both patient and positive over the past two years and we believe he’s ready to make an impact as an everyday receiver for us,” said Lions VP of football operations and GM Wally Buono. “We’ll look to Courtney for leadership and consistency and we’re confident he’ll excel in his role on offence.”

Taylor notched his finest performance of the season on Oct. 12/12 versus Hamilton when he grabbed six passes for a team-leading 93 yards and a major. Two weeks later against Calgary, he recorded a career-best 99 yards on three receptions including a 56-yard gain. For the year, Courtney caught 16 passes for 264 yards and two TDs.

“What we saw from Courtney last season was a player ready to make an impact every time he steps on the field,” said head coach Mike Benevides. “I know he’s ready for the next step and I believe we’ll see a very polished receiver make a regular contribution to our offence in 2013.”

Harper, along with a draft pick, came to the Lions as a part of the Geroy Simon trade with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
