CALGARY — Non-import receiver Jabari Arthur will avoid free agency, signing a contract extension with the Calgary Stampeders on Friday.
Arthur, who had been eligible to become a free agent on Feb. 15, played all 18 games and the Western Final for the Stampeders in 2013. The 31-year-old saw his role increase when Nik Lewis suffered a season-ending leg injury on Aug. 17 and proved to be a reliable target, establishing single-season career highs in catches (41), receiving yards (510) and touchdowns (three) during the regular season.
The Montreal native had the best game of his career and was named the CFL’s Canadian player of the week for his performance on Sept. 28 against Hamilton when he caught four passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns.
“Jabari has been a valuable member of the team for a number of years and he proved his worth this season in particular when injuries depleted our receiving corps and he was asked to take on a larger role,” said Hufnagel. “I’m pleased that he has chosen to remain in Calgary.”
A six-year CFL vet, Arthur has totalled 86 catches for 1,068 yards and four majors over 57 regular-season games with the Red and White.
“I’m extremely excited to stay with the Stamps,” says Arthur. “I knew that Calgary is where I wanted to be. I hope to start and finish my career here and I’m excited to chase another Grey Cup in the years to come.”
