TORONTO — Toronto Argonauts General Manager Jim Barker today officially announced the club’s player personnel team for the 2014 season. Chris Rossetti has been promoted to Director, Player Personnel, Demetri Betzios has been promoted to U.S. Scouting Coordinator, and Vince Magri has been promoted to Canadian Scouting Coordinator.
“All three of these individuals have earned their promotions through hard work, great ability and exceptional commitment to our football team. I believe they are ready for the increased responsibility that comes with these new roles and they will continue to help fill our pipeline with talented players. It is especially exciting for our team, and our League, to advance two young Canadians into important personnel positions.”
New Director, Player Personnel Chris Rossetti first joined the Argonauts’ scouting department as an intern in 2012. He learned quickly from Barker and his scouting network, and his diligence and keen knowledge of football earned a promotion to Player Personnel Assistant just one year later.
His duties now include recruitment strategies in both Canada and the U.S., hosting free agent camps, scouting NFL camps, contract negotiations, and coordinating CFL Draft preparation.
“Chris has worked for our organization for three years, the last two in personnel, and he is the best person for the job. Chris is dedicated, bright and his abilities complement our staff perfectly. He has a very strong work ethic and knowledge of the game that is beyond his years,” said Barker.
Rossetti grew up in the Toronto suburb of Mississauga, Ontario and attended St. Michael’s College School where he played quarterback. He then enrolled at the University of Guelph and played four seasons as a quarterback for the Gryphons.
At just 23 years of age, he becomes the youngest person in his position in the CFL and one of three Canadians in the CFL to hold the same title (Craig Smith in Saskatchewan and Ted Goveia in Winnipeg). 
Demetri Betzios becomes the club’s U.S. Scouting Coordinator after serving in a scouting capacity for Jim Barker since 2009 with both the Toronto Argonauts and Calgary Stampeders.
In his role, Betzios will monitor, evaluate and recruit U.S. based players, assist in coordinating free agent camps throughout the U.S. and maintain key relationships with NFL and NCAA personnel. Previous and simultaneous to his time in the CFL, he worked five years at a private scouting firm where he studied film, created reports, and graded both college and pro football players.
“Demetri has been a U.S. scout for us for the last three years. He has consistently found top American-born athletes and works tirelessly to ensure our roster is stocked with talent. He has developed a good network of contacts throughout the U.S. which has helped us to field high quality import players year after year,” commented Barker.
Vince Magri is entering his second season with the Toronto Argonauts. The 25-year old joined the club as Video Coordinator prior to the 2013 season and will now hold the dual role of Canadian Scouting Coordinator & Video Coordinator.
His scouting duties will now include evaluating, identifying and ranking Canadian talent, tracking and keeping record of Canadian prospects throughout the football season and working closely with Barker and Rossetti to prepare for the CFL Draft.
“Vince, who played football in the CIS, joined our club as Video Coordinator and immediately showed considerable interest and capacity for scouting. Through his work, he helped us evaluate and keep records on a number of talented prospects for the draft and other non-import players throughout Canada. We’re looking forward to watching Vince grow as he takes on this expanded role,” said Barker.
A former four-year starter at guard and centre for the McMaster Marauders, Magri spent 2011 as Assistant Offensive Line Coach, Football Recruiter and Video Coordinator for the University of Toronto Varsity Blues.
In 2012, he returned to McMaster where he was named Offensive Assistant, Recruiter and Video Coordinator for the Marauders team that reached the Vanier Cup championship. Magri grew up in Toronto and played for St. Michael’s College School.
