MONTREAL — It appears that Tom Higgins is heading back to the sidelines.
According to Herb Zurkowsky of the Montreal Gazette, the Alouettes will announce Higgins as their new head coach either today or tomorrow.
Higgins, 59, takes over Montreal’s sideline from general manager Jim Popp, who made his third stint as head coach last August when the team parted ways with first-year head coach Dan Hawkins after just five games.
This will be Higgins’ third head coaching job. He was the head coach with the Edmonton Eskimos from 2001-04, and then the Calgary Stampeders from 2005-07.
He won a Grey Cup with the Eskimos in 2003, beating the Alouettes 34-22 at Mosaic Stadium. Higgins is a two-time coach of the year, earning the honour in 2003 and 2005.
