MONTREAL — The Montreal Alouettes announced on Thursday that the club will be hosting the 2014 Canadian Football Hall of Fame Induction Weekend.

This year’s annual celebration of the best in Canadian football will take place on September 20 and 21, marking the first time that the prestigious weekend is held in Montreal.

The Alouettes will be well represented during the 51st edition of the induction ceremony, as former Alouettes greats Ben Cahoon and Uzooma Okeke will see their names inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame.

Montrealer Wally Buono, who won two Grey Cups as a player with the Alouettes before becoming an assistant coach with the Montreal Concordes, will also be enshrined as a builder.

“The Montreal Alouettes Football Club is thrilled to be hosting the 2014 Canadian Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony,” expressed Alouettes President and C.E.O Mark Weightman.

“We’re looking forward to celebrating the members of the 2014 Hall of Fame class and the timing is perfect with the induction of Ben Cahoon and Uzooma Okeke who helped forge many championship teams here in Montreal. Wally Buono, who played on the dominating Alouettes team of the seventies, gets the chance to be inducted in his hometown in front of his friends and family. We are excited to give the chance to Montrealers and Alouettes fans to participate in such great festivities.”

Also named to the Induction Class of 2014 were former CFL players Maurice (Moe) Racine and Charles Roberts as well as Amateur builder Larry Haylor and Amateur player Neil Lumsden.

“The Hall of Fame is very pleased that the Montreal Alouettes have agreed to host this year’s event. We are excited to have added Montreal to the list of host cities for induction,” said Mark DeNobile, Executive Director of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and Museum.

The Gala Induction Dinner will take place at the Tohu, (2345 Rue Jarry Est in Montreal) on September 20, during which the new inductees will be officially enshrined into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame.

Proceeds from the event will go towards the Alouettes’ community programs and to the Hall of Fame Foundation. Tickets for the Gala Induction Dinner can be reserved now by calling the Alouettes ticket office at 514-787-2525.

The 2014 Hall of Fame Game will be played at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium on September 21 when the Calgary Stampeders come to town. The new inductees and Hall of Fame guests will be honoured during a presentation at half-time.
