HAMILTON – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats dealt with Saskatchewan to get the final two picks in the first round and selected Western LB Beau Landry (8th overall) and Manitoba DL Evan Gill (9th overall)

The Western University product, Landry, had a solid Combine, but is known to be a better overall football player than a tester.

He ran a 4.712 40-yard dash at the Combine, and did not participate in the bench press due to an injury.

Prior to Draft, Landry told CFL.ca that he was looking forward to the opportunity to reach the next level.

“I’m feeling pretty excited right now,” said Landry over the weekend at the East West Bowl. “It’s a big day; I’ve been waiting for it for a long time.”
The 2013 season saw Landry rack up 61 tackles, two sacks, and two forced fumbles in nine total games with the Mustangs.

Ranked sixth in the final pre-Draft Scouting Bureau list, Gill may have seen his stock dip slightly as a result of a reported quadriceps injury, suffered not too long ago.

Regardless of his health, Gill appears will certainly add depth to Hamilton`s defensive front.

In eight games last season with the Bisons, Gill collected 23 tackles and one sack.

Gill was also rock solid at the 2014 CFL Combine, impressing CIS Insider Justin Dunk.

“Gill came in as the top ranked defensive line prospect and he certainly did not disappoint, especially when you consider he added over 20 pounds training in Florida. 29 reps on the bench and a 4.72 shuttle time are perfect examples of Gill’s combo of strength and agility for a young man his size,” he said.

“He got better as the one-on-one session wore on and displayed the potential to be a disruptive player on the interior of the defensive line at the professional level.”
