Back in Green: Charles added to Riders’ practice roster

REGINA — Four days after being handed his walking papers by the Edmonton Eskimos, Hugh Charles has found a new CFL home.

Wednesday, the Saskatchewan Roughriders announced that they have added the 28-year-old tailback to their practice roster.

Charles  joins the Riders after spending the last three seasons with the Edmonton Eskimos where he registered 1,527 rushing yards on 290 carries while seeing action in 33 regular season games.

This will be Charles’ second stint with the Green and White after originally signing with the team ahead of the 2008 season. The 28-year-old was traded to Edmonton in October of 2011.

In just over three seasons with the Riders, Charles racked up 557 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 60 carries.

For his career, the Tulsa, OK native has 388 attempts for 2,084 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns while adding 82 receptions for 995 yards and five touchdowns. He has appeared in 54 career regular season games.
