REGINA — Less than seven hours after being released by the Blue Bombers, Kirk Penton of the Winnipeg Sun has reported that Will Ford is set to sign with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Ford spent the past two seasons with the Blue Bombers, but suffered a hamstring injury during training camp and has yet to see any action this season.

He’ll join the likes of Jerome Messam, Hugh Charles and Anthony Allen as the Roughriders’ running backs.

Last season saw Ford carry the ball 113 times for 594 yards and two touchdowns. His 70-yard run in an October game at Calgary was the second longest scamper by a running back last season.

Through two seasons, he has rushed for 727 yards, a 5.3 yard average, and five touchdowns.

The Riders have been hard-pressed in finding a suitable replacement for former tailback Kory Sheets in 2014. Both Allen and Charles have had trouble hanging onto the ball, while Messam was only signed last week, and didn’t register a carry in Week 3.

The Roughriders won’t play again until July 26 against the Argonauts, as they are on bye in Week 4.

More to come…
