HAMILTON — Tiger-Cats head coach Kent Austin announced Thursday after practice that Dan LeFevour will start at quaterback when the Ticats take on the Ottawa REDBLACKS on Satuday night.
LeFevour, 27 and a former Central Michigan standout, has played in all three games this season for the Ticats, largely as a part of the short yardage team, but also in releif of Jeremiah Masoli in Weeks 2 and 4.
“I trust his decision making based on the last two games. I just feel like we need to give him an opportunity and see if he can command the offence from the beginning,” Austin said following practice on Thursday.
“He’s highly competitive he’s a very strong preparation guy. He’s very determined. He’s been very successful, he’s been very productive in his past. A guy that wants to do everything the right way, and very unselfish. He’s very endearing to his teammates and he’ll play hard,” he added.
In limited action LeFevour has amassed 146 yards while completing 77% of his passes on the season. Last week, Lefevour led the Ticats on a late drive to set-up a game-tying field goal attempt.
The all-time passing yards and passing touchdowns leader at Central Michigan is currently in his thrid year with the Ticats after signing with Hamilton as an undrafted free agent in 2012.
This will be LeFevour’s first start in the CFL as the Ticats look for their first win of the season and try to find someone to replace the injured starting quarterback Zach Collaros.
