OTTAWA — The Ottawa REDBLACKS today announced the availability of the team’s third jersey, part of the team’s CFL Signature Uniform which will be worn for the first time on Sunday, August 24th when the REDBLACKS host the Calgary Stampeders.

The jersey is red, with a REDBLACKS saw blade logo on the front and REDBLACKS lumberjack plaid on the shoulders. The uniform pants are black with REDBLACKS lumberjack plaid trim and “Ottawa” in script on one leg.

The uniform will be topped-off by a REDBLACKS plaid helmet with no other markings when the REDBLACKS play the team’s second game in the Signature Uniform later in the season.

The 3rd jersey is available for fans at the REDBLACKS team store, 841 Bank Street (Fifth Avenue Court) or online at OttawaREDBLACKS.com.

“The new jersey and the signature uniform put the red in REDBLACKS,” said Jeff Hunt, President of OSEG Sports, the REDBLACKS parent company.

“It’s also another connection to the history of Ottawa/Gatineau as a region founded by the lumber industry, just like our “R” logo with its sawblade background.  Reebok did a great job creating that tie with our past in a progressive new design that I think will appeal to our new generation of fans.  And when you look at the uniform, right away you think REDBLACKS!”

The CFL-wide Signature Uniform program began some 18 months ago when Reebok was challenged by the league to develop bold new uniforms for all teams to represent the league’s bright and bold future.

The BC Lions were first to debut a Signature Uniform last season and all other teams are following this season.  Each CFL team will wear new signature uniforms twice this season. The REDBLACKS’ second date for wearing them will be confirmed at a later date.
