TORONTO – Stefan Logan, John Chick, Tim Brown and Rob Bagg were named the Canadian Football League Players of the Week for Week 8 of the 2014 Canadian Football League season.
The four players were chosen by a panel of judges including: former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN, and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.
BC Lions running back Stefan Logan was named the Offensive Player of the Week for Week 8. Logan rushed for a career-high 145 yards on 19 carries (7.6 yards per carry) and scored a touchdown in the Lions’ 33-17 road victory over the Toronto Argonauts.
With Andrew Harris out of the lineup, Logan was able to carry the rushing load for the Lions. Logan, a Tampa, Florida native scored his lone touchdown of the game from three-yards out to open the scoring at the Rogers Centre.
The all-time rushing and all purpose yards record holder at the University of South Dakota also caught five passes for 49 yards in the game.
This makes it consecutive weeks that a BC Lions player has won the award, last week Kevin Glenn was the recipient of the honour.
This is Logan’s first Player of the Week award in his three seasons in the CFL.
Saskatchewan Roughriders defensive end John Chick was named the Defensive Player of the Week for Week 8. Chick collected three sacks for a second consecutive week to help the Roughriders earn a 16-11 win over the visiting Alouettes. The victory extended the team’s win streak to four games.
The 6’4″ 250 pound Gillette, Wyoming native totaled four tackles and a forced fumble to earn back-to-back Defensive Player of the Week honours.
The product of Utah State is currently first in the league in sacks with 12 and has 22 tackles in seven games this season. If Chick continues to produce at his current pace, he will eclipse James Parker’s 30-year-old single season sack record of 26.5.
Chick has already surpassed his career-high of 11 sacks, set during the 2009 campaign.
This is Chick’s third Player of the Week award this season, in addition to being named July’s Defensive Player of the Month.
BC Lions kick and punt returner Tim Brown was named the Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 8. Against the Argonauts, Brown had a combined 249 return yards in the Lions’ 33-17 triumph.
The 5’8″ 190 pound native of Stockton, California has averaged 26.6 yards on kickoff returns and 14.3 yards on punt returns this season.
This is the fourth time in Brown’s career that he has been named Special Teams Player of the Week.
Saskatchewan Roughriders wide receiver Rob Bagg was named the Canadian Player of the Week for Week 8. Bagg caught six passes for 90 yards, including a 30-yard touchdown in the Roughriders’ 16-11 victory over the Montreal Alouettes.
Bagg, a product of Queen’s University, scored Saskatchewan’s lone touchdown of the game when Darian Durant found him in one-on-one coverage running a post route on the first play of the fourth quarter.
The Kingston, Ontario native’s 25 receptions and 359 receiving yards lead the Roughriders this season.
This is Bagg’s fourth Canadian Player of the Week award during his seven-year career.
