TORONTO — The Toronto Argonauts have announced that they have released defensive back Dwight Anderson.

His release comes after the Argos traded for the veteran DB early in July.

The always outspoken Anderson came to Toronto as a veteran presence on a defence that was full of young, unproven talent after an off-season that saw many of the Argos defensive stars leave for tryouts in the NFL or for jobs elsewhere in the CFL.

While with the Argonauts, Anderson amassed 27 tackles, 3 sacks, and 0 interceptions as the Argos defence became one of the top defences in the league against the pass.

The Argonauts also announced that they have released first-year running back Jeremiah Johnson and receiver Terrell Sinkfield.

Johnson signed with the Argos as a free agent in January and earned 110 yards on 21 carries along with 15 catches for 112 yards and a touchdown while with the team this year.

Sinkfield signed as a free agent with Toronto in March, 2014. He dressed in five games, and made seven catches for 90 yards, with one touchdown, carried the ball once for six yards, returned 11 kickoffs for 240 yards and had one punt return for nine yards.

The moves come the same week as the Argonauts take on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the Labour Day Classic.
