2016 CFL Mock Draft 3.0: Corney, Brescacin on the way up

Virginia Media Relations

One Canadian was selected in the NFL Draft – defensive lineman David Onyemata – and four others signed priority undrafted free agent contracts – receiver Tevaun Smith, defensive lineman Mehdi Abdesmad, defensive back Arjen Colquhoun and defensive back Elie Bouka. Those happenings shuffled the CFL Draft deck.

We look at the impact with Mock Draft 3.0, including three new players on the board and a run of Laval O-linemen early on:

John Williamson1. SSK
Josiah St. John, OL
Toronto (Oklahoma)

CFL-focused tackle prospect seems to be separating from the pack and becoming the favourite to go No. 1 overall.

Martin Bouchard/Laval

2. MTL

Jason Lauzon-Seguin, OL
Pointe-Claire, Que. (Laval)

Scouts are saying he could have the ability to develop into starting tackle.

Stephane Gaudreau

3. BC
Charles Vaillancourt, OL
Coaticook, Que. (Laval)

Some view the burly blocker as the most pro-ready offensive lineman in the 2016 class.

4. TOR
Philippe Gagnon, OL
L’Ancienne-Lorette, Que. (Laval)

Strong, tough and mean – all traits Jim Barker loves.

Scott Walstrom/NIU Athletics5. HAM
Juwan Brescacin, REC
Mississauga, Ont. (Northern Illinois)

Big Canadian receiver – 6-foot-3 and 227 pounds — that was consistently productive in the NCAA Division I Mid American Conference.

6. CGY
Michael Couture, OL
Burnaby, B.C. (Simon Fraser)

Versatility is the buzzword around Couture, an athletic offensive lineman that can play multiple positions up front.

Trent Corney, DL
Brockville, Ont. (Virginia)

Many CFL talent evaluators believed Corney had a chance to be picked late in the NFL Draft and they were shocked when he didn’t sign a UDFA contract afterwards.

Grand Valley State Athletics

8. EDM
Brandon Revenberg, OL
Essex, Ont. (Grand Valley State)

General manager Ed Hervey continues to infuse youth into the Eskimos offensive line.

MSU Bobcats9. WPG
Alex Singleton, LB
Thousand Oaks, Calif. (Montana State)

Singleton has the ability to start at linebacker as an import. Since he’s become a certified National the term ratio-breaker fits well.
