WINNIPEG — As the Winnipeg Blue Bombers wait on the status of Weston Dressler, Head Coach Mike O’Shea says he’s hopeful the star receiver can suit up for Friday night’s game in Calgary.

“We’re hopeful he’ll be ready this week,” O’Shea told reporters following the team’s practice on Monday afternoon. According to multiple reports, Dressler was at practice but did not participate.

Dressler left Friday’s 22-14 loss to Montreal in the first half after being tackled on one of his three catches. He finished his day with three passes for 22 yards, while his absence on the field appeared to impact a Bomber offence that struggled to move the football throughout the first three quarters.

The 31-year-old joined the Bombers amid much fanfare this off-season not long after being released by the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He was one of several new faces to debut in royal blue on Friday night along with Andrew Harris, Ryan Smith and Justin Medlock among others.

Now in his ninth season, Dressler came into the league in 2008 with Saskatchewan, where he played eight seasons. He has 7,819 career receiving yards on 542 catches to go with 51 touchdowns in 124 games played.

The Bombers and Stamps both seek their first win of the season on Canada Day Friday night, when they cap off a double-header at Calgary’s McMahon Stadium.
