Carter: ‘I didn’t even know I bumped into him’

TSN

MONTREAL — The reception was stellar, the celebration not so much.  Duron Carter faced a gathering of media following the Montreal Alouettes’ loss on Friday to Ottawa where he became the story of the second half after inciting an altercation in the REDBLACKS bench area.

Carter came down with a difficult catch as the Alouettes looked to cut into the REDBLACKS second-half lead but penalties followed after he took his celebration into the Ottawa sideline.  A major foul penalty and an ejected followed, forcing Carter to join slotback SJ Green in the locker room after Green left with an injury in the first half.

“To tell you the truth I don’t even know what happened,” Carter told reporters post-game in reference to colliding with Ottawa head coach Rick Campbell.  “I didn’t even see the replay until I got (into the locker room) and I ran into the coach apparently, I didn’t even know I knocked him over.”

When asked how he wasn’t aware of the contact with Campbell, Carter said, “It’s a football game, it’s an emotional game.  I got hit and I got two cuts on my face from that hit so you tell me … there is a lot of emotion that goes into that.”

The Alouettes announced on Friday that General Manager and Head Coach Jim Popp has fined Carter for conduct detrimental to the club following Thursday’s game against the Ottawa REDBLACKS. As per club policy, the amount of the fine will not be disclosed.

The club also announced that international receiver S.J. Green has been placed on the six-game injured list. The team expects that a minimum of several weeks will be required to rehab his lower leg injury.
