Tiger-Cats claw up Nissan Titan Power Rankings

CFL.ca

TORONTO — The Ottawa REDBLACKS once again sit on top of the Nissan Titan Power Rankings and remain the only undefeated team in the CFL. This week it was Greg Ellingson, Trevor Harris’ favourite target on the night, who helped lead the REDBLACKS to a 30-20 win over Toronto.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats snapped their two-game losing streak this week with a 31-7 victory over the Montreal Alouettes, but can they continue to rise up the Power Rankings? Meanwhile, the Lions are also on the rise after their Week 4 victory over the Roughriders.

This is not a recording – the Ottawa REDBLACKS are at the top of the Nissan Titan Power Rankings. For the fourth week in a row, Ottawa leads the pack after its Week 4 win over the Argonauts. If Trevor Harris can continue his dominance at quarterback and his league leading receivers, Chris Williams and Greg Ellingson, can keep racking up yards, the REDBLACKS will have a good chance at being in the same position next week after taking on the Roughriders.

Mike Reilly led his Esks to their second victory of the season in Week 4, throwing for 450 yards and two touchdowns, over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Reilly and his team-leading receivers Adarius Bowman and Derel Walker will have the challenge of solving the Tiger-Cats’ punishing defence in Week 5.

The Calgary Stampeders had the week off in Week 4 and stayed put at number three in the Power Rankings. In Week 5, Bo Levi Mitchell and his Stamps will take on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, hoping to improve their record and move up the standings.

Quarterback Jonathon Jennings’ career-high 429-yard night led the BC Lions to a 40-27 victory over the Roughriders in Week 4. The Lions’ offence has started to find its rhythm and matched with a consistent defence, they look like a team that can compete with the best of the West. BC will have a bye in Week 5 before returning to action in Week 6 against the Stampeders.

The Argos have played two games at BMO Field and are still looking for their first win on their new home turf. The Argos lost 30-20 to the REDBLACKS in Week 4 after their defence couldn’t contain Trevor Harris and his favourite target of the night, Greg Ellingson, and fell one spot in the Power Rankings. They’ll have a chance for redemption in front of their home fans in Week 5 when they take on the Montreal Alouettes.

Jeremiah Masoli and his Ticats defeated the Montreal Alouettes 31-7 in Week 4 but it was the Hamilton defence, led by Adrian Tracy, that stole the show. With the defence’s strong outing and the promise of Hamilton’s starting quarterback Zach Collaros’ return looming, the Ticats climbed two spots in the Power Rankings this week.

Winnipeg fell one spot in the Power Rankings this week after a loss to the Eskimos in Week 4. The Bombers struggled to get any offence going in the second half, only managing to score three points. They’ll look to quarterback Drew Willy to spark his offence when they take on the tough Calgary Stampeders in Week 5.

Just when it seemed like things were going well for quarterback Darian Durant, they took a turn for the worse. Durant left limping during the second quarter of the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ 40-27 loss to the Lions, although after x-rays came back negative he was diagnosed with a sprained ankle. He hasn’t been ruled out of playing next week but if the Roughriders are hoping to win their first game of the season, they’ll hope he’ll be healthy to take on Ottawa.

The Als may have their starting pivot back after Kevin Glenn was reported at practice this week. Glenn didn’t play in his team’s Week 4 loss to the Ticats after being sidelined with an inflamed eye. Instead, Rakeem Cato stepped in and had trouble getting his offence going against a stellar Hamilton defensive line. Montreal will hope Glenn will be ready for Week 5 when the Alouettes head to Toronto to take on the Argonauts.
