Weekly Predictor: An Argo bounce back at BMO?

Adam Gagnon/CFL.ca

TORONTO — The Eskimos snapping their three-game losing streak, the Lions’ spoiling Zach Collaros’ return, the Bombers continuing their winning ways and the Stampeders downing the Riders for the second week in a row led to CFL.ca’s Jamie Nye ending Week 8 with a 4-0 record. This week Nye looks to keep his perfect picks alive with his Weekly Predictor.

CFL Pick ‘Em returns with more up for grabs than ever before because this season more than $130,000 in combined cash and prizes are up for grabs.*

Pick 30 in a row, win $30,000; pick 40, win $40,000; think you can pick 50 straight? You’re looking at $50,000. *View rules regarding streaks and prizing.

Here’s Jamie Nye with his picks for Week 9:

MONTREAL @ OTTAWA

The Canadian Press

Henry Burris and his REDBLACKS hope to stay on top of the East with a win over Montreal at home this week (The Canadian Press)

The Ottawa REDBLACKS are coming off their bye week with Henry Burris at the helm, and Trevor Harris is still injured. It’s clear Burris is motivated to prove anybody hinting that the REDBLACKS should move forward with Harris when healthy, is a little premature for the team to move him to #2.

Either way, this matchup is skewed in Ottawa’s favour. Their offence is one of the best, their defence is one of the best and are indeed the big favourite over the Alouettes.

Montreal’s main problem continues to be offence. Again, their defence holds them in games but aren’t getting any help.

CALGARY @ BC

Jimmy Jeong/CFL.ca)

First place in the West is on the line when the Lions take on the Calgary Stampeders this week (CFL.ca)

Easily, the game of the week.

First place is on the line and it’s the season series will be decided as well. First there was a two-point win by BC, then the overtime win by Calgary so I think it’s a fair expectation to have another one come down to the wire.

The last time out, it looked like BC was going to win again, until a late game letdown and some crucial late game mistakes.

The Lions did the same thing against Tiger-Cats last week, while the Stampeders have been tested back to back weeks by the 1-6 Riders.

I’m siding with the home team in this one as I believe the Lions will be able to get out in front again, and find a way to close. But be honest, when you’re predicting a game like this, it’s all a hunch.

EDMONTON @ TORONTO

Adam Gagnon/CFL.ca

Logan Kilgore looks to bounce back this week when the Edmonton Eskimos visit BMO Field (Adam Gagnon/CFL.ca)

The Toronto Argonauts haven’t had a good start at BMO.

With the Blue Bombers putting up 38 points last week, I fear what will be ahead for the Argos defence with Adarius Bowman and Derel Walker coming in next.

However, the Eskimos defence hasn’t exactly helped out the team early in the season. Logan Kilgore has a chance to have a bounce back game, and I think he’ll show much better than he did in the loss to Winnipeg.

I am going with the upset, with the home town Argonauts in this one. Edmonton’s defence has been very hot and cold this season and I think they’ll cool off after only allowed 12 last week.

SASKATCHEWAN @ HAMILTON

Jimmy Jeong/CFL.ca

Zach Collaros and his Tiger-Cats head back home for the first time in four weeks for a tangle with the Roughriders (CFL.ca)

If you would have asked at halftime between the Tiger-Cats and Lions, I would have picked the Riders to win this game.

Zach Collaros had the rust break off and had an incredible second half, that is bad news for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The us vs. the world mentality has taken over the Riders, although it was sinking in before their loss to the Stampeders.

But for me, they’re still not good enough to win a game against a solid defence who has one their worst games last week, and an offence that looks primed to start scoring at will like they were before Collaros went down last season.

CFL on DraftKings

With CFL now on DraftKings, Nye checks in with his weekly fantasy roster. Set your lineup today!

It seems you’re going to get similar numbers between the top tier quarterbacks week in and out, and Jennings has been solid of late and put up huge numbers against the Stampeders a few weeks ago. He’s also the cheapest option. Win/Win.

Jeremiah Johnson scored two touchdowns last week for the Lions and will be relied upon again to help balance the offensive attack against Calgary. With Jennings ability to run himself, the linebackers remain honest, opening holes for Johnson.

You saw Winnipeg receivers put up huge numbers against Toronto, so after going with Derel Walker last week, I’m going with the slot receiver this week in Adarius Bowman.

Luke Tasker is the Marquay McDaniel of the Tiger-Cats offence and McDaniel had a big day against the Riders as have most slot receivers this season.

Boldewijn in BC is going to have a break out game, he must. With Bryan Burnham needing attention and Manny Arcenaeux having big games, the player turning into the third option will come open for a big play and big points.

Now that Darian Durant is back behind centre, Rob Bagg is getting more targets. He also seems to be a big play go to for Durant. He has the best rapport with Durant after the last eight seasons, so it shouldn’t be a surprise.

Saskatchewan’s offence has scored 28 points over the last three games….. play Hamilton’s defence.
