REGINA — The Saskatchewan Roughriders have made another big splash, announcing Wednesday the signing of national linebacker Henoc Muamba.
Muamba, a former first overall pick of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, is the third major signing for the team in the last week following the additions of defensive end Willie Jefferson and receiver Jeff Fuller.
The 6-foot, 230-pound defender spent his first three seasons with the Bombers after originally being selected first overall in the 2011 CFL Draft. He was named a CFL All-Star after racking up 111 total tackles during the 2013 season.
Muamba signed with the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts in February, 2014, where he went on to play 13 regular season games and the AFC Championship game.
The St. Francis Xavier product returned to the CFL in October, 2015 signing with the Montreal Alouettes. He played the final four regular season games for Als picking up 14 defensive tackles.
The 27-year-old Muamba most recently attended 2016 training camp with the Dallas Cowboys where he played three preseason games.
Through parts of four CFL seasons, Muamba has totaled 185 defensive tackles, 54 special teams tackles, 16 tackles for loss and four quarterback sacks in 51 regular season games.
As per club policy, financial details of the contract were not released.
The Riders are coming off their bye week with two straight wins in their back pocket and will aim to continue their streak on Friday night in Ottawa.
