CFL provides explanation regarding onside kick penalty in Ticats, Esks game

TORONTO — The Canadian Football League Command Centre provided an explanation regarding a penalty on an onside kick in the final minute of the Hamilton, Edmonton game:

“On the short kickoff attempt on play #144 there should not have been a flag for Illegal KO. The ball was legally recovered by Edmonton #4. The ball was placed and scrimmaged from the correct location on the following play.”

With the Tiger-Cats down by three points, they attempted an onside kick which was recovered by Eskimos receiver Adarius Bowman who tipped the kick out of bounds.

Regardless of penalty, the Esks would have maintained possession of the football.

The Esks came back from an early Tiger-Cat lead in the first quarter to defeat the Hamiton 29-26.
