Rumours continue to swirl around Als’ open GM job

TORONTO — Days after it was reported that Brock Sunderland was no longer a lead candidate for the open Montreal Alouettes’ general manager job, reports out of Montreal indicate that the club could be looking at a multi-tiered overhaul to its football operations — one that could include assistant Kavis Reed and Danny Maciocia.

According to Herb Zurkowsky of the Montreal Gazette, Alouettes special teams coordinator Kavis Reed could be in play for the GM role:

If Reed does indeed land the job, it would be the first executive position for a coach that has spent the majority of his CFL career as a coordinator on the defensive side of the ball. From 2011 to 2013, Reed served as head coach for the Edmonton Eskimos where he posted a 22-32 record with two playoff berths.

Sticking with Reed, Sportsnet‘s Arash Madani is also reporting that Reed could be part of Montreal’s long-term plan along with Maciocia.

This speculation is just the latest in what has been an eventful few days in the Als’ GM search.  Earlier in the week, TSN‘s Gary Lawless reported Sunderland wasn’t the only presumed lead candidate and also said that talks between the Alouettes and Maciocia had been far from extensive.

Montreal parted ways with the only GM the modern-era Alouettes knew when the Jim Popp era ended in November. Popp spent over two decades with the team after originally joining the Baltimore Stallions in 1994, who later moved to Montreal to become the Alouettes.
