WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Blue Bombers announced Monday they’ve agreed to a two-year contract extension with long snapper Chad Rempel.

Rempel, a Sherwood Park, Alta. native, has appeared in all 36 regular season games and one post-season contest since signing with the Bombers prior to the 2015 season.

Previously a pending free agent, Rempel is a key component of the Bombers’ special teams.

“Without question, one of the most underrated roster spots in football is the position in which Chad excels at,” said General Manager Kyle Walters. “He is excellent at his craft and is extremely knowledgeable in regards to special teams. With Chad, we don’t have to think twice about a big piece of our kicking game.”

Rempel has played 172 career CFL games, nine of which came with the Blue Bombers in his rookie season in 2005. Rempel moved on to play seven seasons for Toronto and one for Hamilton (2008) before spending the 2013 season with the NFL’s Chicago Bears. He returned to the CFL for the last half of the 2014 season with Saskatchewan. The 2016 season will be Rempel’s 13th in the CFL.

“Chad is extremely valuable to our operation as a kicking unit and was a huge reason we had the success we did last season from a special teams, and specifically field goal kicking standpoint,” said the league’s Most Outstanding Special Teams Player, Blue Bombers kicker Justin Medlock. “He’s a leader, and his attention to detail is one of the many reasons he is the best in the CFL at what he does.”
