EDMONTON — The Edmonton Eskimos have released international linebacker Deon Lacey to pursue NFL opportunities.

Lacey has reportedly since signed with the NFL’s Miami Dolphins, according to TSN‘s Dave Naylor.

The release was announced Tuesday as Lacey, who was previously pending free agency on Feb. 14, is allowed to venture south early.

A three-year veteran, Lacey contributed to the Eskimos’ Grey Cup Championship in 2015 before becoming a full-time starting linebacker last season. The 26-year-old chipped in with 87 defensive tackles and 16 on special teams along with three interceptions, a touchdown and a sack.

The 6-foot-2, 229-pound linebacker has played in all 18 games in each of his three professional seasons.
