Esks, Thompson agree on contract extension

EDMONTON — The Edmonton Eskimos have extended pending free agent defensive back Brandyn Thompson, keeping him in Green and Gold through 2018.

Thompson originally signed as a free agent last August. In eight games (eight starts) with the Esks, he recorded 22 defensive tackles and one interception. During the 104th Grey Cup Playoffs, Thompson recorded three defensive tackles, and two pass knockdowns.

He spent the 2014 and 2015 seasons in Ottawa where he amassed 99 defensive tackles and seven interceptions in 34 games.

Prior to the CFL, Thompson was selected by Washington in the 2011 NFL Draft. He recorded two tackles and a fumble recovery in six games.

In four seasons at Boise State (2007-10), he recorded 146 tackles (95 solo) in 48 games. He also added 13 interceptions and returned one for a touchdown.
