VANCOUVER — International defensive lineman Bryant Turner Jr. has signed a contract extension with the BC Lions for the 2017 season, the team has announced.

Turner was eligible to enter free agency on Feb. 14.

“Bryant provides our defense with solid depth at the defensive tackle spot,” said Head Coach and General Manager Wally Buono. “Last year, he was very receptive to a supporting role which in turn, resulted in some very effective play from him down the stretch.”

“I  really enjoyed last season in BC,” said the veteran d-lineman who’s heading into his seventh CFL season. “We have a great mix of youth and experience and I’m very excited to be part of the team heading into 2017.”

In his first season in BC, the Lions’ defence ranked tops in the CFL with 337.7 yards allowed per game.

Turner has played six CFL seasons, spending five in Winnipeg before joining the Lions. In 81 career games, the 29-year-old has recorded 29 sacks and five forced fumbles.
