VANCOUVER — International defensive back Ronnie Yell has signed with the BC Lions for the 2017 season, the club announced Tuesday.

“Ronnie has been a very steady performer at one of the most difficult positions on the field,” said Lions’ GM and head coach Wally Buono. “Having him under contract along with T.J. Lee, Steven Clarke and Keynan Parker is a very positive starting point for our secondary and makes this a significant signing for our team.”

Yell returns for his fourth year with the Leos and has 43 starts at cornerback with 104 tackles and four career interceptions, three of which have been returned for touchdowns. His 2016 season was cut short in Week 10 when he sustained a foot injury during warm-ups in Toronto, but he has since returned to a full training regimen.

“I’m very happy to be back with the Lions and I’m ready to start that Grey Cup grind,” said Yell from his home in Los Angeles. “Keeping our crew together this year is going to make us a dangerous group. I love the team Wally is building on both sides of the ball and I believe this is going to be a special year for all of us.”
