REDBLACKS land corner help in Jefferson

OTTAWA — The Ottawa REDBLACKS have dipped into the free agent market once again, this time signing veteran defensive back A.J. Jefferson, who tweeted the news himself on Tuesday.

Jefferson, a two-year CFL veteran, has played 30 games over the span of two seasons with the Toronto Argonauts, logging 91 tackles, six interceptions and a touchdown along the way.

The move for the REDBLACKS helps address key subtractions this off-season, including the departed Forrest Hightower (NFL), Abdul Kanneh (Ticats — free agency) and Mitchell White (NFL).

The 28-year-old Jefferson, who stands 6-foot, 190 pounds, is known as a physical defender who plays with an edge and excels in man coverage.

Before arriving in the CFL two years ago, Jefferson spent five seasons in the NFL between the Arizona Cardinals, Minnesota Vikings and Seattle Seahawks.

The cornerback was born in Bakersfield, Calif. and attended Fresno State.
