OTTAWA — The Ottawa REDBLACKS have released linebacker Damaso Munoz after three seasons with the team, reports the Ottawa Sun‘s Tim Baines.

The six-year veteran may have become expendable after the team reportedly signed free agent linebacker Khalil Bass shortly after 12 p.m. ET on Tuesday. Both play weak side linebacker while Bass was one of the higher-ranked free agents heading into the deadline.

Munoz, 30, joined the expansion REDBLACKS in 2014, going on to play 44 games over three seasons while racking up 166 tackles and eight sacks.

After appearing in the 103rd Grey Cup with Ottawa, Munoz captured his first championship a year later, piling up 10 defensive tackles in a thrilling overtime win over the Calgary Stampeders in the 104th Grey Cup.

Bass, meanwhile, has racked up 181 tackles, nine sacks, three interceptions and five forced fumbles over two seasons with the Bombers.
