OTTAWA — The Ottawa REDBLACKS remain busy early in free agency, the team announcing it has signed former Argos receiver Kenny Shaw.

The deal was initially reported by TSN 690’s Joey Alfieri barely an hour after the market opened on Tuesday at 12 p.m. ET. The REDBLACKS confirmed the news shortly after 5 p.m.

Shaw’s second season with Toronto saw the 25-year-old emerge as a favourite target for the Argos’ quarterbacks. He led the Argonauts’ receiving corps in 2016 with 1,004 yards and five touchdowns on 77 catches.

The Florida State alumn signed with the Argos as a free agent in 2015 and played in two games in his rookie season, spending 16 on the practice roster. He had one carry for 11 yards and added one kick return for eight yards. He also had two punt returns for seven yards in his first year in the double blue.

The move fills a major void at receiver for the REDBLACKS, who could be without Ernest Jackson and Chris Williams this season — both currently free agents who have not been re-signed.

Ottawa has also signed former Argo Diontae Spencer, according to an unconfirmed report by TSN’s Matthew Scianitti, potentially giving REDBLACKS pivot Trevor Harris two of his former Argos targets to throw to in the nation’s capital.
