TORONTO — It appears Argos slotback Andre Durie is ready to walk away.
One of the franchise’s most recognizable faces over the last decade penned an emotional letter to fans on Wednesday, suggesting his time as a slotback in the Canadian Football League has come to an end.
“Thank you for years of memories,” Durie wrote in a letter he tweeted Wednesday night. “Being able to reach my community has been a blessing.
“You have watched me struggle and grow throughout my football career and supported me through it all. Thank you for that!!”
The entire letter can be seen in the tweet below:

Durie, a native of Mississauga, Ont. and graduate of York University, grew up watching the Argos back when the Rogers Centre was the SkyDome, long before he ever suited up for them.
After suffering a career-threatening knee injury in the second game of the 2005 season at York, Durie missed the remainder of the 2005 and 2006 seasons. Still, Durie impressed Argos management and earned a spot on the roster in 2007, suiting up for five games.
Missing only six games from 2009 through 2013, Durie became a key cog in the Argos’ offence, the height of it all coming in 2013 when he logged 986 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 92 receptions.
The previous year, meanwhile, Durie helped the Argos win the 100th Grey Cup on home turf in front of a sold out Rogers Centre.
While injuries sidelined the 5-foot-10, 195-pound slotback for all but six games from 2014 to 2015, Durie successfully played in all 18 games in 2016, recording 228 receiving yards and a touchdown on 23 catches.
But with the Argos coming off a 5-13 season and a rebuild on tap, it appears Durie is no longer part of the team’s future plans — this according to TSN’s Matthew Scianitti:
Andre Durie told he isn’t part of #Argos future. Durie’s future? “Told myself I’d never retire so officially no. Just not playing lol” #CFL

Will Andre Durie pursue other teams & other options? “I can’t leave the city I have too much going on here. So unfortunately no” #CFL #Argos

So after 10 seasons, 122 games, 322 catches, 3,658 receiving yards, 15 touchdowns and a Grey Cup Championship, Durie appears ready to move on too.
Ask around and the impact Durie had across the CFL in his career is clear:
