MISSISSAUGA – It has taken a bit of time but the Toronto Argonauts’ first round pick from 2011, offensive lineman, Tyler Holmes will don Double Blue.
"Tyler is a talented young lineman we traded into the first round to select in the 2011 draft. We believe he has the physical tools to develop into a very good offensive lineman one day and we are excited to have him join our team," said Argos GM Jim Barker.
The 25 year old played five seasons at the University of Tulsa where he was a two year letterman and twice earned All-Conference USA Honorable Mention as an offensive tackle.
The Nepean, Ontario native signed with the Minnesota Vikings in 2012 and spent the entire season on the club's practice squad. He attended the Vikings' training camp this season before signing with the Argonauts.
In a draft day deal during the 2011 CFL Draft, the Argonauts sent the Saskatchewan Roughriders a second round pick, 12th overall, (S Craig Butler) and a fourth round pick, 27th overall, (OL Alexander Krausnick-Groh) in exchange for the 7th overall pick (Holmes).
Tyler's father, Richard Holmes, suited up at running back for the Argonauts, Ottawa Rough Riders and Winnipeg Blue Bombers as a player in the 1970s. He was named an East Division All-Star when he scored 11 touchdowns as a member of the Rough Riders in 1977.
The Argonauts also announced that non-import OG Joel Reinders has been released.
