MONTREAL -- The Montreal Alouettes announced on Friday that the club has signed import free-agent Geoff Tisdale to a two-year deal. The 26-year-old veteran cornerback has played five seasons in the CFL, including four with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The Als also announced the release of DB Jerald Brown.

Tisdale amassed 35 defensive tackles and a pair of interceptions in 15 games with the Tiger-Cats last season, racking up a season-high eight defensive tackles in Week 9 against the Alouettes. Over five seasons, the Pacoima, CA native has accumulated 198 defensive tackles and 17 interceptions, including two returned for touchdowns.

"We are excited about Geoff joining our team," said Alouettes General Manager Jim Popp. "We will be rebuilding our defense and Geoff will get to be a part of the process. We look forward to Geoff bringing his veteran leadership into our locker room and are looking for a big year from one of the better bump and run corners in the CFL."

Injuries are a Cop Out? Sorry Dude, with the limited rosters in the CFL that response is just a cliche.

if you believe injuries are the reason the als D stunk for 2 straight years you know very little about CFL football and limited rosters have nothing to do with it either!!

You guys are traumatized by the last two years of D. The Als D as Washington Generals. It's been bad. We WERE decimated by injuries, but that excuse gets boring. Remember - In 2009 Als allowed 324 points, 100+ less than the next best team. THAT was Defence. Need a D-C of Chris Jones caliber.

Im with A.R!! during the als GC years.. our greatest offensive plays where beautiful (naturally), but all the other teams `highlight plays` were against US!! we have had holes in our defence for years, that's the side of the ball we NEED to clean up!!

I was sorry when they originally signed #33, and he did nothing for us. But Jerald Brown played some good D for the Als. I'm looking for a 6-7 man rotation of beasts up front. Hopkins, Scooter Berry, and Alan-Michael Cash have all played well. There's some Cdn. talent at DE as well.

anderson was a bust and was far I mean far from a shutdown corner!! brown did play well for us except for all the pass interference red flags!! BUT his time came to an end!! hopkins returns, berry looked good, cash I'm not sure about a return match for '13 plus others and at DE bowman, lockley, Ihekwoaba plus others!! BUT more signings need to be done in this area!! #96 will be missed!!

The Grey Cup years = nothing wrong with Als D. Predicated on pressure from the front 4. Trestman a BUST on D ? Remember the INJURIES. But Dwight Anderson WAS a BUST. Good Riddance. Tisdale is a good signing. You're dreaming A.R., Brandon Whitaker is a full cut above his possible replacements.

Tisdale came off the worst defense (especially backfield) from last season. Injuries did play a part but didn't affect how he was used. He was obviously cut for a reason!

sorry bud als can get by quite well without whitaker if that indeed happen!! devine/anderson/jennings/messam/diedrick/lavoie though not the same style as brandon can in their own way play WELL for the als!! ANY WORD ON A CB MARK ESTELLE RETURNING TO THE ALS? HAS HE RECOVERED FROM HIS MAJOR LEG INJURY? injuries can't be used to explain our poor defence that's nothing BUT a cop out!! anderson was a real pathetic signing by GM popp!! and trestman knew as much about defence and special teams as a PQ premier knows about british/english history!! als D during the GC years was a credit to former DC who's currently the HC of the BBs and not anything to do with trestman!!
