MONTREAL -- The Montreal Alouettes made a surprise selection at no. 8 overall picking kicker Brody McKnight out of Montana.

The Als will have to wait for McKnight's services as he will be returning to Montana for his final year of NCAA eligibility in 2011.

With their second selection in the draft the Alouettes selected Concordia offensive tackle Anthony Barrette at number 16 overall in the second round.

“Anthony is a big, strong man who has amazingly quick feet, plays very physical, and is fast,” said former Alouette and Concordia coach Bryan Chiu prior to the draft.

With their next selection (3rd round - 23rd overall) the Als selected offensive lineman Philip Blake out of Baylor. Blake was the fourth rated player according to the CFL Scouting Bureau but he has remaining NCAA eligibility and NFL potential.

The Als then chose Michigan defensive lineman Renaldo Sagesse (25th overall) and Calgary Dinos offensive lineman Alexander Reed (31st overall) in the fourth round.

Next the Alouettes chose defensive lineman Vaughn Martin. Martin may well have been the most talented player in this year's draft with the catch being that he is currently a member of the San Diego Chargers.

Montreal ended the day by selecting linebacker Blaine Ruttan out of Carson-Newman with the 47th and final pick of the 2011 Canadian Draft.
