TORONTO -- At a media conference at Rogers Centre, the Toronto Argonauts Football Club officially named Bart Andrus as its new Head Coach, making him the 40th in club history.
Andrus comes to the Argos with over 25 years of coaching experience. Most recently, he was Offensive Assistant for the Tennessee Titans (NFL). Prior to that, Andrus was Head Coach of the Amsterdam Admirals (NFLE) for 7 seasons and received NFLE Coach of the Year honours in 2005. A proven track record of winning at all levels of football, Andrus has coached in 5 championship games at the professional level, including one Super Bowl.
Commented General Manager/Vice President, Football Operations, Adam Rita, “This is the beginning of a new era for the Toronto Argonauts and I couldn’t be more excited that Bart Andrus is our Head Coach. This young man, at least compared to me, has impressed me from our first meeting with his intensity, poise, intelligence, focus and knowledge of the game. His ability to lead, while emphasizing teamwork, is impressive and inspiring. I can’t wait to see him drenched by a jug of Gatorade when he racks up his first win for the Argos.”
Bart Andrus remarked, “It is truly an honour to be the guy chosen as Head Coach of the Toronto Argonauts. I’d like to thank the Argos organization, the fans and the City of Toronto for such a warm welcome. There is a lot of work ahead for me but I am confident that the 2009 season will bring with it a lot of success for the Argos.”
Toronto Argonauts co-owners Howard Sokolowski and David Cynamon stated, “On behalf of the entire Toronto Argonauts organization, we would like to welcome Bart Andrus as our 40th Head Coach. Congratulations to Adam Rita and his football operations staff on conducting a cohesive search that brought us the best available coach with a proven track record, leadership skills and a team-first attitude. We believe that infusing our team and the CFL with some new blood will yield new ideas, schemes and strategies which will ultimately bring the Argos back to our winning ways.”
