Landry Breaks Down Dwight Anderson Deal

TORONTO -- The Toronto Argonauts have bolstered their secondary acquiring veteran defensive back Dwight Anderson in a trade with the Saskatchewan Roughriders Monday morning.

Heading the other way is a conditional selection in the 2015 CFL Draft.

Currently in his eighth Canadian Football League season, Dwight Anderson comes to the Argos with 354 career tackles and 19 interceptions, four of which have been returned for touchdowns.  Known for his playmaking ability and trash-talking ways, Anderson was a vital piece of the Roughriders Grey Cup championship last season.

“Dwight Anderson is a veteran player who can help our team immediately," Argonauts general manager Jim Barker said in a statement. "He’s a competitor who has won two Grey Cup championships and has been recognized as an all-star on multiple occasions in our league. Coach Milanovich and I have both coached on teams that Dwight has played for, and we’re happy to welcome him to Toronto.”

Anderson was acquired by the Riders in February of 2013 as a free agent after spending two seasons with the Montreal Alouettes (2011-2012).  Prior to joining Montreal, Anderson spent time in both Hamilton (2007) and Calgary (2008-2010), winning a Grey Cup with the Stampeders in 2008.

The Spanish Town, Jamaica native attended the University of South Dakota for two seasons between 2002 and 2003, and also played at Arizona Western College between 2000 and 2001. Prior to playing in the CFL, Anderson spent time with the Philadelphia Soul of the AFL, the St. Louis Rams and the Carolina Panthers of the NFL.  He played in three NFL games for the Rams amassing five (5) tackles.

Horrible trade by Taman. He could have gotten at least a roster player for DA, instead he gets a conditional pick. Yes, DA has some stupid plays and stupid penalties, but all of the players do, and not all of them play at the same level. Just an extremely bad idea in my opinion.
