TORONTO -- The Toronto Argonauts announced today that veteran placekicker Noel Prefontaine has been placed on the nine-game injured list.  As a result, the club has signed import K Swayze Waters.

Prefontaine, who sits atop eight of 23 major statistical categories in franchise history, has had a tough start to the 2012 season, hitting 10 of 15 field goal attempts.  Compounding the Argos' challenges on special teams is the fact that two of those misses were taken back touchdowns.

» Toronto adds veteran Etienne Boulay
The Toronto Argonauts signed non-import defensive back Etienne Boulay on Monday,
one month after he was released by the Montreal Alouettes.

Swayze Waters was a two year starter for the University of Alabama at Birmingham Blazers. As a senior, he converted 19 field goals and had a punting average of more than 43 yards. As a junior, he was named First-Team All-Conference USA. He most recently attended training camp with the Edmonton Eskimos and has also spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Oakland Raiders and Detroit Lions, all of the NFL.

Prefontaine has obviously been hurting since he is usually more reliable. Alix is not the answer - too inconsistent given any real distance to kick, so signing another player is about the only option remaining.
